As we know PTE(Pearson test of english) tests our English language skills through Speaking, Reading, Writing, & Listening modules. As Speaking module judges our Speaking skills, Reading module of PTE judges our reading skills. It has some topics through which it tests our reading skills i.e.

Scoring Criteria:

The score that is given to you in reading is out of 90. But PTE’s scoring system is a combined scoring system so you’ll not be given all 90 marks from only these topics. There’re also some topics of writing and speaking which has reading’s score i.e. read aloud and summarize written text. Similarly, this module has also included scores of writing in some topics. So, if your reading performance is good in exam, then you’ll also be awarded some writing score from it. As an illustrate, if you’ll do 6 right answers of “fill in the blanks(Drop Down)” topic’s questions, it will give you 6 marks of writing module along with 6 marks of reading. The total allocated marks in these topics are mentioned below:

Tricks & Strategies:

Fill in the Blanks- Each paragraphs will have 80 words through which you will be given at least 4 blanks. These paragraphs are little bit difficult because of having rich vocabulary words. All we need to do is to find out the meaning of sentences & figure out what is missing in it. It could be adjective, verb, adverb, noun etc. Moreover, some of its answers are collocations based. So, before reading all the paragraph, you have to look on its answers and figure out if they are making natural collocation with previous/next word or not. Not only this, some of its answers are based on grammar. Hence, we also need to clarify all sentences grammatically correct or there is any missing part of grammar.

Multiple Questions, Single Answer- In this topic, you’ll be given a paragraph from which you’ll be asked a question. They will give you 4 or 5 options of it through which the one option is correct. In order to find it out, you have to read the question first instead of reading its paragraphs. Reading the question will let you know that about what you’re asked to find out from paragraph. After it, you can easily find the answer of it.

Multiple Questions, Multiple Answers- In this topic, you’ll be given a paragraph from which you’ll be asked a question. They will give you 4 or 5 options of it through which more than one answers are correct. In order to find it out, you have to read the question first instead of reading the paragraph. After it, you have to read the paragraphs carefully and find out all possibilities which is matched with its options.

Re-order- In this topic, you’ll be given 4 or 5 sentences which you need to make them in ascending order. Each pair will give you 1 mark. In order to find it, you have to understand its concept that what these sentences are about. By understanding the whole meaning, you can easily get that what should be at first and what should be at last. Because it will let you know all the procedure which is given in the sentences.

For improvement- If you are still struggling to improve your reading skill, you have to start reading books as much as you can and start learning vocabulary words at least 30 to 50 words per day. Improving your consciousness and vocabulary will definitely help you to get higher marks in PTE exam.
