In today’s education criteria, formal written assessment is widely used as assessment criteria. It refers to method of evaluation to judge the student’s skill. Some people perceive that it reflects the student’s skill and capability on paper while others argue that different students can perform always equally. I firmly believe that formal written examination is an appropriate way to judge the student’s skill and knowledge. I will elaborate my views in the forthcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, formal written exams are more inclined towards testing the student’s skill by giving them learning material and then ask them questions from that learning material. Students having better photographic memory will be able to solve answers without having to know what the question even works. Moreover, due to time constrain, students are often nervous while attempting answers. Hence, they are not in their optimal condition to think.

On the flip side, written assessment is the only way to prevent students from cheating as compare to any other forms of exam. For instance, students take home assignments which could be easily completed by others. Hence, it will not reflect their actual performance.

In conclusion, written examination has asserted unnecessary pressure on to students. However, it offers students to demonstrate their actual knowledge and prevent them from any kind of cheating which is not feasible through any other examination. Hence, formal written examination should be the assessment method to evaluate children’s performance.
